Memorial Day Weekend in Atlanta

It's memorial day weekend and time for a break. After living in Atlanta for 11 years, this is my first memorial day weekend here in my city. In prior years, my favorite holiday weekend spots were Miami (of course), Los Angeles or visiting my family in Louisiana. This year, I'm going to try something a little different and spend time with my friends here in HotLanta.

There's actually alot going on in Atlanta this weekend, from the Jazz festival at Piedmont park to the all white party at Lucky Lounge. I'm definitely looking forward to enjoying my weekend here in my city.

Atlanta Jazz Festival

Piedmont Park will be hosting The Atlanta Jazz Festival this weekend, with music from violinist Regina Carter, the Warren Wolf Quintet, the Gerald Clayton Trio and Ninety Miles, featuring Stefon Harris, David Sanchez and Christian Scott. This free festival will have musicians on two stages, with headliners on the main stage and bossa nova, Latin, and other global jazz on the International Stage. Music start promptly at 1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, May 28 and 29, and continues with a ticketed performance Monday, May 30, at Center Stage Theatre by New Orleans star Trombone.

Stone Mountain

Stone Mountain’s laser show has been updated with digital projection and 3-D effects and the new show debuts Saturday, May 28. This weekend the show is accompanied by a special fireworks display offering a tribute to the Armed Forces and there are discounted admissions for military personnel. Georgia Renaissance Festival

92 degrees and humid in Atlanta, definitely living up to the HotLanta name, but of course its a nice sunny day so I have to make the most of it.  I will make a mad dash to my closet, pick out my favorite spring hat and sunglasses and hit the streets.  Happy Saturday!

6 a.m. Fashion Tips

It's amazing that so little of my time is spent picking out the perfect top, nicely pressed skirt or even the perfect business casual dress as I get ready for work every morning. Waking up at 6 a.m. is just not my cup of tea, or in my case, coffee.  Sometimes I don't realize how uncoordinated I am until I see my reflection in the elevator mirrors in the office building. That's when I realize it's time to make a detour to the ladies room.  If you notice me walking into the office with my designer handbag and oversized black brief case, don't be fooled.  You may think, wow, that's girl really looks like she's got alot going on with that brief case; she must be really important.  But little do you know, my brief case is not filled with the typical reports, paperworks or contracts most executives carry around.  My brief case includes an extra pair of shoes, at least 3 sets of bangles, 2 pairs of earrings and my prada shades. I'm always prepared!   Not everyone has the motivation to put together the perfect look at 6 a.m. however, it is important to be prepared and always have a backup plan.  You should alway may sure you carrry extra accessories in your work bag to spice things up at the office.

This spring, I'm going to try something a little different at the office.  Instead of my usual butterfly earring and bracelets, I'll try some other new insect-insired jewels. What do you think?

Friday - TAP - if you haven't tried "TAP" you're missing out on a treat. Visit their Midtown Atlanta location across from colony square on Peachtree Road and 12 street. It's a great place to get drinks after work. Try one of their specialty drinks. My favorite is the "dragon berry" with crushed berries.

Friday - Echelon 3000 - For the 30 plus crowd, check out club Echelon 3000 on FRIDAY where GINUWINE will be performing live. For free access before 9pm, text "e3k" to 90210.

Friday - Twist at Phipps Plaza (Buckhead)- As alway, Friday night at Twist is always the place to be, but you better get there early, I mean really early. Twist specializes in sushi, seafood and tapas.

Saturday - Murphy's in Virginia Highlands - Murphy's is a great lunch spot on Saturdays and Sundays.  They service great southern style food.  Try the shimp and grits or the fried green tomato sandwich.

Saturday/Sunday - Noche - across the street from Murphy's is Noche.  Great spot for drinks and tapas.On Sundays you can find $1 Dos Equis.  You can also find $2 Tecate, $5 Margaritas, $5 Sangria, and $15 Red Bull & Liquor pitchers all week!

Fashion Week in Miami - July 2011

There's still time ladies!  This July, Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim will showcase the latest international designers from Australia, Brazil, Columbia, and  United States.  This event will take place July 14th-18th at the extrodinary Raleigh hotel so you still have time to schedule a fun trip to Miami and hang out with the latest designers, models, athletes and international stars.  Press registration is still open until June 24 to avoid any late fees.
